An old monastery has been reconstructed and brought back to its former glory...

Chyangba Monastery Reconstruction

Chyangba Village has an old Chyangba monastery, approximately 100 years old, which was falling into ruins. Being a strict Buddhist, Wongchu felt the need to revive the age old monastic tradition. So he donated the necessary amount of money to repair the monastery and bring the former glory back. The roof was replaced with fresh new zinc sheets. The walls were repaired. Main deity statues were damaged so the statues were reconstructed using a local expert lama. Furniture were repaired and wall paintings were repainted.

At the moment, the monastery is being looked after by 60 years old Lama Passang. Activities like monthly rituals, nyungney (45days ceremonial ritual for dead person), full moon rituals are performed. Now the monastery also serves as a place for social gatherings, connecting every single household in and around Chyangba Village.
